As part of the initiatives being carried out to promote mental health in the country, the Ministry of Health approved the “Technical Health Standard for Protected Homes”, which establishes the regulatory framework for the operation of these facilities. Protected Homes provide residential care and treatment for people with mental health conditions who are experiencing social or family abandonment, and who in many cases live on the streets.
Published in the Official Gazette El Peruano through Ministerial Resolution No. 701-2018/MINSA, the regulation aims to promote better services for these individuals by providing, through Protected Homes, medical care that contributes to improving their autonomy, reducing symptoms, and restoring their abilities in personal, family, and social areas, within a framework based on citizens’ rights and social inclusion.
These facilities will provide individuals with personalized support and 24-hour assistance, as well as accommodation for a maximum of eight residents, food, clothing, cultural support, and gender-sensitive care.
The professionals responsible for these facilities must have at least two years of work experience in public or private mental health establishments. Additionally, the infrastructure of each facility must meet the appropriate conditions to provide the aforementioned services.
Let’s continue moving forward!
