Excellent news for our country! The head of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM), Vicente Zeballos, announced today the approval of the regulations of Law No. 30947 – Mental Health Law, as well as the creation of the National Mental Health Council, which will monitor the country’s Mental Health Policy.

The National Mental Health Council will be the organization responsible for monitoring the National Mental Health Policy, which was also approved today. “The preparation and approval of a National Mental Health Policy has been ordered, which was previously considered a component of the National Health Policy. In this case, we will provide it with priority and specialized attention. Likewise, in order to be responsible for monitoring the Mental Health Policy, the creation of the National Mental Health Council has been established,” he stated.

Zeballos Salinas recalled that since May, the regulations of Law No. 30947 – Mental Health Law had been pending, and they will be published tomorrow in the official newspaper El Peruano. The head of the PCM also explained that this regulation will be accompanied by a series of measures that will make the Government’s concern and commitment regarding mental health a reality, including the implementation of more community mental health centers and protected homes.

The commitment is to implement 50 new community mental health centers and 35 new protected homes in different regions of the country by July 2021. The head of the Ministerial Cabinet indicated that all these provisions are the result of the work carried out by a multisectoral commission led by the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM).
